Athena Percussion Begins!

I am so excited to be publishing this website in the name of Athena Percussion, the new Women+ Soloist Percussion Collective. This has been a dream of not only me and Emma’s, but so many women I have spoken to over the years, for so long, and we are so honored to be bringing it to life.

I wanted to actually tell a little story of how this project came to be:

I called a mentor of mine earlier this year, when Emma and I first had the idea to host some kind of Womens’ Concert together. I asked her, how do you make something like this come to life?

She told me: “Well, it’s a really incredible idea, and I think it’s something a lot of people would be interested in. So I would make a list of maybe 20-30 people you would dream to collaborate with, I mean think really big, and begin asking around as soon as you can. The worst they can say is no, and you’ve met a new person”. We assumed that since this was our first concert, people might be too busy, or they might not be ready yet to commit to a project, but we decided to listen to this advice and just begin asking around.

Well, we only had to go through 4 people. The first 4 people that we asked to be a part of this project said yes, instantly.

This shows to me, and I hope also shows to you, that projects like this are valued and should be more common throughout the community. Women everywhere want to work together. So, if you have an idea, and you have a vision, don’t be afraid to share it with not only those around you, but your biggest idols. You would be surprised how many people want to hear your voice and want to join in to create something.
