WHAT WE DO / WHO WE ARE
-
Athena Percussion, with generous thanks to Edition Svitzer, has commissioned “Sí, Se Puede!” for Marimba and Vibraphone Duo, written by Kana Omori. World Premiere will take place at PASIC26 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
Athena Percussion member, Genevieve Hillburn, has also commissioned “toe-ness” for Snare Drum solo, written by composer and percussionist Lorena Navarro.
-
Athena Percussion strives to premiere works by Women+ composers across the globe. The American Premiere of “Mørkeblå” by Adrianna Kubica-Cypek will be performed this fall at PASIC26.
-
The performers of our Debut Concert at PASIC26 represent the United States, Serbia, Japan, Germany, and Denmark. Our performers regularly perform and collaborate with women from countries all over the world.
-
The performers of our Debut Concert take part in many varying musical careers. From contemporary soloists, to DCI/WGI education, to college professorship, to performing in the orchestra, we can prove that women in percussion can be anything they strive to be, and can be true experts in any field.
-
We are having our Debut as a mostly soloistic program. While there will certainly be more chamber-focused collaborations in the future, our dream was for our first venture, to truly allow each performer their moment on the stage, to share their own voice, and give as big of a spotlight possible to them, and the composer they will represent.
